Complex Systems Department

Welcome to Complex Systems Department

Head of department: Denis Pierre Boyer

The Complex Systems Department was founded in 1990, and currently it is composed of 10 professors/researchers. Its main goal is to perform research at the frontier of the ample field of Complex Systems. These are macroscopic systems that show emergent properties and whose behavior is not an evident consequence of the interactions among its constituents. This is typically due to their complex structure or to their inherent non-linear characteristics.

The research interests of the Department may be described by the following general topics:

  • biological complex systems
  • non-linear dynamical systems
  • fundamental problems in quantum mechanics
  • transport in mesoscopic systems
  • nanoscience
  • ultracold matter
  • statistical mechanics of networks

The members of the Department do research in specific projects of the above subjects.
